PeerConnect: Mental Health During Covid-19

September 19, 2020 @ 12:00 pm CDT - 1:00 pm CDT

Covid-19 changed the world as we knew it and impacted all facets of our lives. As a result, lots of people are experiencing higher levels of stress, anxiety, grief, and worry. Join us for a discussion on managing mental health needs during the pandemic.

The event will not be a therapy or counseling session but a chat to share resources and tips for mental health. We will be joined by mental health therapist, Hayley Whitman, who will help facilitate the chat and provide insight on how to take care of mental health needs during this period of uncertainty.

Hayley Whitman is a licensed professional counselor and marriage and family therapist.  Originally pursuing a degree theatre, her interest in discovering people’s motivations and understanding human behavior led her to psychology.  She currently owns her own practice Healing Legacy Counseling in Ohio where she works with the individuals and couples recovering from trauma and improving their ability to maintain healthy relationships.  She has been using a wheelchair exclusively for about 15 years.

BACKBONES PeerConnect is a program offering monthly online meetups for people in the spinal cord injury and disease (SCI/D) community looking to connect with their peers. Whether you have many years post injury, or if you are new to the community, PeerConnect is a great way to meet others, share your story, and learn from other people with similar experiences to you.

RSVP

PeerConnect meetups will be offered monthly via Zoom Video Conferencing. Up to 10 participants with SCI/D will be allowed to register. Participants will be emailed the meeting link a few days prior to the session and the morning of.

PeerConnect sessions will be started and moderated by a person with SCI/D who has experience with peer support and mentoring.
