BACKBONES presents the ReelAbilities Film Festival Chicago! The festival is dedicated to sharing the human experience of disability through art and film. ReelAbilities screens a variety of films, workshops, panels, and other arts programming at different venues in Chicago.
Meet the Team
Reveca Torres (Co-Director) is an artist, filmmaker and disability advocate. She was a Kartemquin Films Diverse Voices in Docs fellow (2017) and selected for Kartemquin + Hulu Accelerator program in 2020. In 2020 Reveca was one of four fellows for International Documentary Association’s (IDA) newly launched Documentary Magazine Editorial Fellowship.
Matt Lauterbach (Co-Director) is founder of All Senses Go. He is a filmmaker and educator with nearly two decades of experience crafting engaging non-fiction content for museums, classrooms, the web, and the big screen. As a disability advocate, Matt is dedicated to making digital media and culture accessible to everyone, regardless of ability.
Grishma Shah (Co-Director) is a Chicago-based artist and Doctoral candidate in the field of Entertainment Psychology. Grishma consults with filmmakers, film festivals, and production companies in various stages of the creative process. Her work addresses various dimensions of humanity such as the intersectionality of culture, gender identity and ability status.
Accesibility
We provide a barrier-free environment for all audiences including: accessible seating for wheelchair users or those with mobility impairments; ASL interpreters and Live Captioning for deaf or hard of hearing attendees; Audio Description, Braille and Large print for blind or low vision attendees and quiet/flexible spaces for attendees with different sensory needs.
