October 7, 2020 @ 7:00 pm CDT - 8:00 pm CDT

Join us for a discussion on the book About Us: Essays from the Disability Series of the New York Times!

Special Guests include: Rosemarie Garland-Thomson, Luticha Andre Doucette & Cheri Blauwet. They are all contributors to the book.

Rosemarie Garland-Thomson is a professor of English and bioethics at Emory University. Her work brings disability culture, ethics and justice to a broad range of institutions and communities.

Luticha Andre Doucette is a businesswoman, writer, philanthropist, proud cat mom and activist located in Rochester, NY. In her spare time she volunteers, is a community organizer, an avid reader and a competitive fencer.

Cheri A. Blauwet is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, a seven-time Paralympic medalist and serves on the board of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

About the book:

Boldly claiming a space in which people with disabilities can be seen and heard as they are―not as others perceive them―About Us captures the voices of a community that has for too long been stereotyped and misrepresented. Speaking not only to those with disabilities, but also to their families, coworkers and support networks, the authors in About Us offer intimate stories of how they navigate a world not built for them.

We encourage you to read or listen to the book prior to our discussion. It is available in three formats on Amazon. And come with your questions for our panelists!
